Diamond Face Shape
Common diamond face features
A diamond face shape has its widest visible line at the cheekbones, with a narrower upper outline and jaw.
- The cheekbones form the widest visible line by a clear margin.
- The upper outline narrows above the cheekbones instead of staying broad.
- The jaw also narrows, often toward a defined or slightly pointed chin.
Diamond versus oval and oblong
Reference points the detector compares your photo with. Your own numbers will differ; the closest reference becomes the label.
| Shape | Visible pattern | Length ÷ cheek width | Upper ÷ cheek width | Jaw ÷ cheek width | Jaw turn |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diamond | Cheekbones clearly widest; narrower top and jaw | 1.43 | 0.78 | 0.74 | 144° |
| Oval | Longer than wide; jaw tapers inward to a soft chin | 1.42 | 0.92 | 0.78 | 151° |
| Oblong | Distinctly longer than wide; widths fairly even | 1.70 | 0.93 | 0.84 | 144° |
Diamond shares length with oval and oblong, so the three are often close matches. Oval keeps a wider upper outline; oblong is longer with more even widths. If the upper outline is as wide as the cheeks, heart is the nearer comparison.
What a photo cannot establish
Smiling raises the cheeks and can exaggerate cheekbone width. Hair pulled tightly back or covering the temples changes the upper width the tool measures. Because the upper outline is a proxy rather than the true hairline, diamond results are worth checking with a second photo. A single photo cannot establish a fixed face shape or guarantee a styling outcome. This is not a medical assessment.
