Square Face Shape

Common square face features

A square face shape has a defined jaw turn and relatively similar upper, cheek and lower widths.

  1. The lower jaw stays relatively broad compared with the cheeks.
  2. A visible turn separates the side of the face from the line toward the chin.
  3. Upper and lower widths can look similar; length alone does not establish the shape.

Square versus triangle and round

Reference points the detector compares your photo with. Your own numbers will differ; the closest reference becomes the label.

ShapeVisible patternLength ÷ cheek widthUpper ÷ cheek widthJaw ÷ cheek widthJaw turn
SquareSimilar upper, cheek and jaw widths; distinct jaw corner1.220.980.96128°
TriangleJaw widest; upper outline narrower1.320.821.04132°
RoundWidth close to length; soft, open jaw curve1.180.940.84158°

The most useful distinction is often the corner, not a perfect width match. A softer jaw with a similarly broad face can read round. When the jaw becomes wider than the upper outline, the pattern moves toward triangle. A longer outline with clear corners can fall into the oblong family; rectangle is a comparison term within that family.

What a photo cannot establish

Check both sides. If one side looks very different, camera rotation, lighting or hair may explain it. The tool rejects pronounced turn or tilt and cannot automatically identify every beard or fringe obstruction. A beard, shadow or cropping can hide the turn; the result describes what is visible, not hidden bone. A single photo cannot establish a fixed face shape or guarantee a styling outcome. This is not a medical assessment.
